Sterling silver cast into the bone of a cuttlefish, carved and hand-fabricated into earrings with shepherd's hooks. Malachite and Azurite (Globe, AZ) is inlaid in a channel on each earring and an elongated chrysoprase (Australia) bead dangles freely from the ear hook. These earrings measure approximately 2" long, 5mm thick and 1.25" wide.
I hand-forged these earrings from mokume gane sheet stock that I produced in 2001. The earrings were dapped half-round and drilled at the top so they move freely from the shepherd's hooks.
These earrings were initially carved from wax and then cast in 18kt gold using the process of lost wax casting. The post and joint were hand-fabricated after casting. Each earring was then inlaid with Lapis Lazuli from Afghanistan.
